Design changes over the years

1964-1970: The original design of the Kennedy Half Dollar, introduced in 1964, features a portrait of President John F. Kennedy on the obverse (front) side, designed by Gilroy Roberts.

1971-Present: In 1971, the minting of the Kennedy Half Dollar shifted from a 90% silver composition to a copper-nickel clad composition

Bicentennial Issue (1975-1976): In honor of the United States Bicentennial, special Kennedy Half Dollars were issued in 1975 and 1976

1982-Present: From 1982 onwards, minor changes in the minting process and finishes have occurred, but the basic design of Kennedy's portrait on the obverse

Special Editions and Commemoratives: Over the years, the U.S. Mint has issued various special editions and commemoratives of the Kennedy Half Dollar. 

Silver Proof Issues: The U.S. Mint occasionally releases silver proof versions of the Kennedy Half Dollar, using a 90% silver composition similar to the original 1964 coins

Occasional Revisions: While the basic design elements have remained intact, there have been occasional revisions to the minting process,
